Department of PlantProtection

Background:
The Department of Plant Protection is one of the previous Departments established in the Faculty of Agriculture &Environmental Science of Somali National University and originally prioritized as one of the main paramount departments due to the upsurging catastrophic pests and diseases threatening food security and environmental health in Somalia in order to take the faculty it’s role of alleviation the risks and save guarding of sustainable life and environment through producing pioneer and highly qualified experts, capacity building, consultancy, research and innovation.
Vision 
Department of Plant Protection aspires to achieve academic criteria and requirements of education quality at the national level, to meet the agricultural wealthy by protecting from Animate and Inanimate production constraints for sustainable development of human and natural resources in the field of plant protection, to connect the Department to local community through offering necessarily scientific and research support for people who work in the field of agriculture, and to solve agricultural problems in the area of plant protection.

Mission
Department of Plant Protection contributes to the achievement of Faculty mission as for preparing a distinguished graduate capable of competing in local and national agricultural labor market through continuous development of the educational process and infrastructure of Department. It also aims to develop agricultural community through carrying out studies and scientific research that will increase agricultural production in quantity and quality while keeping the environment safe.

Objectives
1. To manage the Department efficiently and effectively by utilizing 100% of its human and financial resources.
2. To produce quality and holistic graduates in plant Protection sector by organizing the least possible theoretical and practical educational efforts for students.
3. To enhance strategic partnership and collaboration with the equivalent Academic Institutions.
4. To enhance competitiveness of the academic level through reviewing the curriculum and developing the student skills through training and capacity building platforms.
5. Ensuring of the producing of well qualified experts those equipped with full knowledge of identifying, conducting pest risk analyses and managing of pests with appropriate approach.
6. Assisting in the commitment to ensuring the country’s food security, especially within the current global climate, by adapting the climate smart Pest management programme.

  1. Completion of secondary school with a minimum overall average of 50%
  2. Should bring the original and a copy of secondary school certificate
  3. Should bring Six (6) passport size photos with white background
  4. Should bring the original copy of a letter of good conduct issued by your secondary school
  5. Should bring a sponsorship letter from your guardian
  6. Should successfully pass an admission interview and/or test
  7. Pay non-refundable Processing and ID card fees of USD $50 (bank draft)
